Summary
Siege vs War Defense. Siege: boosts power when you attack enemies.
Siege: boosts power when you attack enemies.
War Defense: boosts defense when you are attacked.
Both branches cost a lot of time and badges, so most players must choose one first. The right choice depends on your role in the alliance.
■ Who should pick which
• R4 or aggressive players → finish Siege first to lead rallies and season structure destruction.
• Otherwise → War Defense is far more effective. It may not show clearly on power rating, but it is often the largest real power gain.
■ Why defense usually pays off more
The game rewards raiding — defense already has an edge; this research strengthens it further.
Most of the time, ordinary players are attacked more than they attack. Every successful defense keeps your resources and reduces wounded troops. This does not show in your power number, but it shows clearly in how rarely you get plundered and how quickly you recover after fight days.
■ When Siege makes sense
Siege is valuable when you regularly lead your alliance's attacks, especially against season structures. A strong leader helps the whole alliance fight more effectively.
■ Self-check questions
• Last week, did you attack more or get attacked more?
• Does your alliance need you to lead attacks on season structures?
• Are you usually online when your alliance organizes attacks?
If most answers lean toward defense, choose War Defense first. The article "Siege / Defense point comparison" has the detailed math.
After each game patch, verify numbers in-game (warehouse, lab, hero screens). If something differs, report via Feedback or article comments.
